This recently renovated villa is one of the oldest villas in Playa Pelada. After a complete overhaul of the house plus the high-end finishes, there is no way to tell the house was built over 25 years ago. Old style quality starts at the footings; extra-wide, solid and strong – an original lower framework of impenetrable solid block – floor to ceiling wall to wall windows/ sliders to create maximum light, and upper clerestory windows turned into square modern swing outs to give abundant airflow.
A new outside frontage wall of Venetian plaster style concrete, undoubtedly a sculptural statement, houses a wide staircase leading to the upper-level separate studio apartment; a Nosara must-have. Beneath the structure are two bodegas- a laundry; and tool garden shed, both multi-functional spaces. The main area of the home has 32-foot tall ceilings made of the original woods used in the home. The large quartz bar, which seats 6, tends to be one of the main gathering spaces. The galley kitchen directly behind is wide and has plenty of storage. All the cabinetry in the kitchen is made of local woods. Peering through the staircase which is open and spacious, is a cozy living area and a full bed alcove for an eighth or ninth guest. A little bit famous in Nosara, this pool is said to be one of the deepest, for its size – a functional feature that allows cooler water temperatures. The house boasts three bedrooms, a decent sized downstairs queen bed with pull out single- with a small close-by bathroom; an intimate master suite, with nice sized walk-in closet, open bathroom and french doors to a Juliet balcony overlooking the pool. The studio apartment can be closed off for complete privacy, and potential rental or it can be used as a large west wing bedroom accessible from the catwalk. Perhaps the most appealing feature of the home is the huge rancho, which serves consecutively as an additional gathering and dining area. If the kitchen bar area is the heart of the home, the rancho is certainly the outdoor “heart of the home”.
The houses sits on almost a half-acre, but the house itself is conveniently situated on one half, introducing the possibility of extra non-invasive buildings to the main dwelling. The gardens, which include hundreds of palms and a wide variety of native plants, create a lush landscape. Casa Luisa is a special and magical place, a true retreat from the humdrum of everyday life.
